Mawlānā Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Balkhī (مولانا جلال الدین محمد
بلخى), also known as Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī (جلالالدین محمد
رومی), but known to the English-speaking world simply as Rumi,[1]
(30 September 1207 – 17 December 1273). Jalaluddin Rumi Balkh
(is known as the greatest Sufi poet in the Persian language. He
was born in Balkh (Northern Afghanistan) in 1207. His family
moved west to avoid the Mongolian invasions, which brought mass
destruction and chaos. During his life time, he wrote a great
deal of lyrical poetry, including the famous Mathnawi, which
focused on the various aspects of Sufism and their relationships
with everyday life. J. R. Balkhi's works are widely read and
have been translated into many languages, including English,
Spanish, French, Spanish, Italian, and even Russian. Balkhi was
also the founder of the Whirling Dervishes (Mawlawiyah Order).
